And then, when all the ingredients of the food tasted bland, the Master Chef added a little salt and lo taste came in.
"You are the salt of the earth. But if salt loses saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trampled by men."
Mathew 5:13
These were the words of Jesus just after the Beatitudes. But why salt? Why not sugar spice or chicken masala? The answer is simple- salt adds flavour. You might not add sugar in spicy food but you will definitely add salt in sweet food fully knowing that salt activates your taste buds and it's highly impossible to regain saltiness once lost.
Putting the same thing into aspect, we all are the living salt of the earth. We are to add flavour and life wherever we might be and are to activate the good in everything we see. We are to trigger justice where there is injustice, try to give pleasure where there is pain, comfort when disturbed, peace when there is chaos and ultimately love and hope where there is sin.
All this is beautifully symbolised as being the salt of the earth. Now salt has no use when it's in its container but add it to your food and you will enjoy it's flavour. Salt is needed most where there is no salt around. Similarly, we as Christians need to go to the places where there is no hope of the good news.
' Do not conform to the patterns of the world,' said Paul, but never did he say that you must lock yourself away from the world and solely live in Christian fellowship. But Jesus tells us to go out into the world, go preach the gospel, show the light where there is not even a ray of it. There is no point in being a Christian is you do not go out into the world and give your flavour.
Just like how salt can be used for different purposes, our calling and purposes or assignments given by God are different. Some are excellent teachers, some are excellent cooks. Some are leaders and some have the gift of hospitality. Some are orators while some have the gift of listening but regardless of what it is my plea is that we all use it- and use it in our own creative way for His glory.
Lastly, how can salt be made salty again? How can time be brought back again? How can youthfulness be restored again? Or wait, can it? This is where it makes fuller meaning. When many are suffering how are we utilising our time? How much do we try to postpone things to when we get older not knowing that when we truly get old, we shall regret for not doing it when we had the strength and energy? Alas, let us not make that happen to us. Let us live each day to its fullest remembering our spiritual assignments and completing it, little by little, day by day.
In conclusion, I'd like to state, let us truly spread our flavour (our positive vibes) and change out own little world with it. Let us not let anyone look down upon us just because we are young but let us set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity.
Thank you!

Excellently written! We can forget our role in this world sometimes. This stands as a beautiful reminder that we must never be complacent but always strive to be the salt in the world around us. Thank you so much Sharon! It came as an encouragement to me too.
