My Journey Exploring the Theory of Evolution

(Prologue) What could be my stance on evolution? This was something I repeatedly wanted to address but I was usually unsure if it would find relevance on my blog. Firstly, because I’m not a theologian. And secondly because I just thought most people were way past that. For some reason I assumed this was not an argument among Christians anymore (wow, I know, my ignorance) and we’ve moved onto weightier issues. However, that is really not the case. I have seen people both within and outside the scientific community that think evolution is some sort of a tale or a conspiracy theory, sometimes even having “scientific” theories of their disapproval of the same. So here it goes!   During my days in school, I, like every other child, thought that evolution was simply a theory supported by loosely based facts and wasn’t something I should be too bothered about as a good Christian kid. I genuinely believed that Darwin and the rest of the evolutionists only wanted to have a go...

Faith that Strives for Justice - Sermon notes 22.05.2022

Greetings to you all in the name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ! I consider this an opportunity t o speak to you all from the Word this morning.   So, for our meditation today, let us turn our Bibles to Isaiah 1:17. Let’s Pray: Dear Lord Jesus, I submit myself into your hands. May the words I speak, proclaim life and may the words from my mouth speak to your people. In Jesus name I pray, Amen.   We come every Sunday to worship God. One of the very prominent portions of our liturgy is, “Holy art thou, Oh God”, “Holy art thou Almighty Lord”, “Holy art thou, Immortal Lord”, “Oh Thou that was crucified for us, have mercy on us”. Even as the choir we sing that the Lord is Holy, he is Immortal and he is Almighty. So when we say that God is Holy, what do we mean? Holiness not only implies the purity and sanctity aspects but also the righteousness if God. He is an upright, virteous and righteous God. And when we say that he is a righteous God, we a...

PEACEFUL

Let my love for you be peaceful. I do not want it to shatter your glass ceilings or roar oceans worth of might. I want it to knock you, peacefully. Almost like you wanted it.  I do not want it to brush against your cold, numb fingers. No. I will stay away. I have better things to do. But I want it to yearn for me. So everytime we meet, I will stir in you something that will look forward for me. And you will wait for them - those encounters- one heartbeat after another.  You will wait for them as you slowly unveil your stone heart and show me it was the stone-coloured sky. And your clouds were full and waiting to pour. But truly, they were waiting for me all along. And so I let them weep. They bursted open and drenched both you and I.  I found a shelter for both of us so you wouldn't fall sick. I made sure you ate so we wouldn't tire ourselves. I kept you safe. I kept you warm. And out of you came everything that was once dormant. I told you, my love for you would b...

Ethical Conundrums regarding the Gaza Strip

Off late, with the mass bombings and genocide happening in Gaza and knowing how Israel has provided licenses to fuel companies (one of them being British petroleum) to profit out of Gaza's gas I realized that the conflict (well, it's not a conflict anymore, it's pure apartheid) was also being viewed from a capitalistic point of view. Further, getting to know that Rishi Sunak, the prime minister of the UK, is most likely profiting from the genocide since Infosys signed a billion-dollar deal with British Petroleum led me to a dilemma of how unknowingly complicated and frustrating ethics can be. I am not talking about the politicians, the leaders, and world peace-makers. I am referring to common people. People who live on the other side of the world and only get to see this in the comfort of their homes. People who have been mostly unaffected by this war. People who have been going ahead with the rest of the day as if nothing happened. People like you and me.     Imagine an ...

On Coltrane's Passing Away - A tribute to the Harry Potter series

Note to the reader: I had written this after the passing away of Robbie Coltrane, who played Rubeus Hagrid, groundkeeper of Hogwarts. When my sister texted me the news, my mind just flashed through all memories we had growing up with the books, movies and fan theories. So here's to the first book that got me into reading.  Here's also to my sister, who,  because of the age gap we share,  practically raised me in many ways. The following piece/ write-up was on my Instagram highlights for a while and then I realized, it should probably be here to stay permanently. So here it goes! :) Harry Potter was the book that got me into books. It started when my sister began narrating them as bedtime stories to me until she decided that I was old enough to read them. She had already finished telling me the first 3 books by then. We never owned the books, but by the time I came of reading age, my sister and I (mostly my sister, hehe) would find every means possible (borrow from a...

I cannot read ‘The Book of Joy’ the same way now!

The Dalai Lama controversy has sparked enough conversation on the internet. And now that I have a book with his name and picture on the cover, I cannot see it the same way.   For the uninitiated, The Book of Joy has been on my office desk for the past 7 months. I carried it one day to work and then just decided to leave it there. Every time I shifted my place, I carried it along with the rest of my notebooks, cards, and bookmarks. I made sure I read 10 pages when I needed time away from my screen. And on most days, if not all, I left it back at work itself. I did not want to mix it up with the rest of my readings. It was the kind of book where you could pause and pick from anywhere. Without my own knowledge, I slowly became the girl who had this one book on her desk. I remember my then acquaintance once told me something along the lines of, ‘I couldn’t remember your name, so I told my friend it was the girl who has that Book with Dalai Lama in her place and she immediate...

Jaclyn Glenn and Paul & Morgan

Yesterday when I saw the picture of Jaclyn Glenn with the YouTubers Paul & Morgan I was confused. Was there another feud that I wasn’t aware of? Or did either party happen to change their beliefs resulting in this weirdly phenomenal friendship?   From left to right: Paul Olliges, Morgan Olliges, Jaqueline Glenn and David Frank For the uninitiated, Jaclyn Glenn is an atheist Youtuber, who has often covered Paul & Morgan in her channel. Paul and Morgan are a young Christian couple who although have some good videos, have some very problematic and questionable opinions. Their video on “Would Jesus Wear A Mask?” justifies not wearing one, they believe that birth control means not placing your trust in God’s hands and they belong to the population of Christians who believe that Trump was appointed by God to restore the sinfulness of America.   Along the same lines goes another Youtuber, Brenda Marie Davis, known for her channel God is Grey. Both Brenda and Jacl...
